［EU平均以下の5年生存率］イギリス

Cancer survival in the UK is still below the European average, despite recent improvements, a report says.

Five-year survival rates in lung, breast, prostate and colorectal cancer were lower in the UK compared with everywhere except eastern Europe.

The Eurocare studies of 23 countries looked at the outcome of 2.7m new cases diagnosed between 1995 and 1999.

Government cancer "tsar" Mike Richards said poor results in the UK had been due to delays spotting the disease.

The studies, published in the Lancet Oncology journal, are the largest international projects to compare the survival of patients from 11 different cancers.  (以下略)

 

　たまたま、BBCのニュースサイトでこんな記事をみっけました。理由としては「発見の遅れ」や「医療へのアクセス制限」があげられていました。

　ちなみに日本の５年生存率について、国立がんセンターのサイトを見ると…

 

1993年～1996年にがんと診断された人の５年相対生存率は男性45.1％、女性54.8％。

部位別では、女性の乳房と子宮が70％以上で高く、胃、大腸、直腸、結腸が約60％～70％、肝臓と肺は20％前後で低い。

 

とあります、この数字はそんなに悪くはないと思います。しかし医療技術がほぼ同じEU内でも、英国のように手術までの待機時間が長いために、5年生存率に跳ね返るとは・・・。日本でもこれ以上「医療費削減」でプレッシャーをかけすぎれば、英国と同じようにならないか心配です。杞憂にすぎなければいいですが。ぽち→
